Intensive Couples Therapy in Baltimore County, MD

Get to the root of your disconnection and heal it—for good.

When did you become strangers?

There was a time you were inseparable, but now you’ve been relegated to “roommates.” Couples intensives are designed for partners who are looking to dive deeper into their relationship dynamics, examine their own roles in them, and make real, transformative changes in a condensed amount of time.

We’ll understand what’s feeding the cycles you’re stuck in, get you back on the same page, and lay the groundwork for a relationship where you feel a renewed sense of understanding, intimacy, and potential.

UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER ON AN ENTIRELY NEW LEVEL.

UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER ON AN ENTIRELY NEW LEVEL.

Understand each other on an entirely new level.

WHAT A COUPLES INTENSIVE CAN HELP WITH:

Distorted communication

I can help you navigate communication challenges and understand how your partner’s words connect with your own feelings, so you can both feel heard and understood.

Response patterns

Together, we’ll explore automatic, reactive patterns—like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn—and build new ways of responding that support connection, even in conflict.

Avoidance behaviors

If avoidance is keeping you disconnected—whether it’s fear of conflict, fear of rejection, or uncertainty about how to express your needs—we’ll work on those patterns together and build tools for honest, safe communication.

Fear of relationship loss

I’ll help you address the constant fear that your relationship could end, fostering a deeper sense of security and trust in your connection.

Emotional responsibility

If you tend to lose yourself in your partner’s needs—or feel like it’s your job to keep the peace, fix their feelings, or hold everything together—we’ll explore how to create more balance, boundaries, and mutual care in the relationship.

Boundary issues

Whether you’re afraid of saying no, avoid conflict to keep the peace, or feel guilty for putting your own needs first—we’ll work together on building boundaries that protect your connection without requiring self-sacrifice.

Intimacy challenges

If past trauma is affecting your sexual or physical intimacy, we’ll work together to heal and rebuild a healthy, close, and connected relationship.

Trauma impact on identity

If you learned early on to caretake or keep the peace to feel safe, those patterns can still shape how you show up in your relationship. We’ll explore how that history affects your sense of self and intimacy today—and help you reclaim space for you in the relationship.

The Process

This intensive is an opportunity to step away from the daily grind and focus entirely on your relationship.

Before we begin, we’ll start with a free consultation to talk through what’s been going on and make sure this process feels like a good fit.

If you decide to move forward, you’ll both complete a comprehensive assessment that includes joint and individual sessions. This gives us a clear, nuanced understanding of your relationship—what’s working, what needs attention, and where we want to focus. Whether you’re hoping to break free from stuck patterns, strengthen your connection, or work through a specific challenge, these sessions are designed to deepen insight and give you tools for lasting change.

FAQs

  • No, intensives can be a stand-alone approach or part of your ongoing therapeutic journey. If you’ve already been in therapy together, the intensive can help break through barriers that may not have been fully addressed.

  • Before we dive into the intensive, you’ll both complete a 4-hour assessment, which includes joint and individual sessions. This step helps us:

    • Understand your relationship patterns—what’s working and what’s not

    • Identify your strengths as a couple and areas that need attention

    • Explore each partner’s goals, priorities, and perspectives

    • Examine how past experiences, family dynamics, and personal histories influence your relationship

    • Get a clear picture of how you interact as a couple

To support this work, you’ll receive a personalized digital workbook, filled with insights and exercises tailored to your relationship. This will be a valuable resource during and after the intensive, helping you apply what you’ve learned.

  • Before we schedule anything, we’ll start with a free 30-minute consultation call. It’s a relaxed, no-pressure chance to talk about what’s been going on in your relationship, what you’re hoping to get out of the intensive, and to see if this approach feels like a good fit for you both.

Each intensive is tailored to your unique situation, using proven methods like EMDR, IFS/parts work, attachment-focused therapy, inner child work, and somatic techniques—basically, we’ll pull from what works best for you.

No matter which intensive option you choose, the goal is the same: to help you break out of painful patterns, understand the deeper dynamics in your relationship, and make space for real change. You’ll learn how to communicate more clearly, navigate emotional triggers, and start showing up for each other in a way that feels healthy, grounded, and connected.

  • Yes, intensives are ideal and can be very helpful for couples dealing with significant events like infidelity, betrayal, or trust issues. They offer a dedicated space to process emotions, rebuild communication, and begin healing in a focused setting.

  • That’s okay! Relationships are complex, and while intensives are designed to create rapid progress, they are not magic fixes. If necessary, we’ll outline a plan for continued growth and follow-up sessions to ensure you’re on track to achieve both of your long-term relationship goals.

  • I draw from a variety of methods to best support your unique needs. These include Terry Real’s Relationship Life Therapy for improving connection, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Imago Therapy to address past patterns and build empathy, and Pia Mellody’s Post Induction Therapy to work through family-of-origin issues.

I also incorporate Somatic Experiencing and Polyvagal Theory for trauma recovery, alongside Attachment Theory to strengthen emotional bonds. If needed, Psychodynamic/Relational Therapy, EMDR, and Family Constellations help uncover and heal deeper relational dynamics. Together, these approaches offer a holistic, personalized way to create lasting change in your relationship.
